Song Of Solomon 2
Isaiah 2 contains, among the many messages Isaiah the prophet foretold, both a hopeful message about the future and a warning message about the present age. This chapter can be broadly divided into “A Remarkable Vision in Which All Nations Gather on the Mountain of the LORD”(2:1-5) and, “A Warning of Judgment Against Pride and Idol Worship”(2:6-22).
1verseI am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.
2verseAs a lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.
3verseAs the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, his fruit was sweet to my taste.
4verseHe brought me to the banquet hall. His banner over me is love.
5verseStrengthen me with raisins, refresh me with apples; for I am faint with love.
6verseHis left hand is under my head. His right hand embraces me.
7verseI adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, or by the hinds of the field, that you not stir up, nor awaken love, until it so desires.
8verseThe voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping on the mountains, skipping on the hills.
9verseMy beloved is like a roe or a young deer. Behold, he stands behind our wall! He looks in at the windows. He glances through the lattice.
10verseMy beloved spoke, and said to me, “Rise up, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.
11verseFor behold, the winter is past. The rain is over and gone.
12verseThe flowers appear on the earth. The time of the singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.
13verseThe fig tree ripens her green figs. The vines are in blossom. They give out their fragrance. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.”
14verseMy dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places of the mountainside, let me see your face. Let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet and your face is lovely.
15verseCatch for us the foxes, the little foxes that plunder the vineyards; for our vineyards are in blossom.
16verseMy beloved is mine, and I am his. He browses among the lilies.
17verseUntil the day is cool, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be like a roe or a young deer on the mountains of Bether.
Lesson 1-5: A Vision of Peace
Chapter 2, Verses 1-5, proclaims a remarkable vision of what will happen in the end times. It depicts the house of the Lord being established on every mountain, with all nations streaming to it, as God brings reconciliation and peace. The phrase they beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks symbolizes that war will end and peace will be established. In this picture of people coming to God, the universal hope and peace of humanity are revealed.
Section 6-22: A Call to Judgment and Repentance
From Chapter 2, Verse 6, Isaiah looks at the real condition of God’s people in Israel at that time. He accuses them of the widespread practice of pagan customs and idolatry, the accumulation of wealth, and the arrogance of both people and idols. With regard to this kind of social and religious corruption, God proclaims judgment, and ultimately foretells that all human and arrogant things will be brought low, and that only God will be exalted. Finally, he depicts a scene in which idols are discarded as worthless in front of people, emphasizing that it is the right path to place hope only in God.

Meditation Point
- What is the peace I long for and what does God’s reign look like?
- Take time to reflect on whether there is any arrogance or idolatry in the present age or even in my own life that Isaiah warned about
- What is valuable and stands forever, and am I not fixated on things that will disappear? Try asking these questions
Try it on me
- Remember that true peace begins with a life that follows God
- Let go if what I trust and exalt is anything other than God
- Decide to live today with a heart of humility and repentance
